TIPS & INFO
IKMC Tips for Healthy Children and Families
At Imran Khan Medical Center (IKMC), we believe that healthy habits start at home. Families can support their children’s well-being by encouraging balanced meals, regular physical activity, proper sleep, and good hygiene. Staying hydrated, keeping up with vaccinations, and supporting mental health are also key. Most importantly, spending quality time together strengthens family bonds and promotes emotional well-being. IKMC is here to guide and support families in building a healthier future.
Can I trust my tap water?
It depends on your local water source. In many urban areas, tap water is treated and safe to drink. However, in some rural or underdeveloped regions, tap water may contain harmful bacteria, chemicals, or pollutants. To stay safe, you can use a water filter, boil water before drinking, or use bottled water for drinking and cooking. If you’re unsure about the safety of your tap water, consult your local health department or medical professional at IKMC.
Is my microwave giving me cancer?
No, using a microwave oven does not cause cancer. Microwaves use non-ionizing radiation, which is not strong enough to damage DNA or cause cancer. As long as the microwave is in good condition and the door seals properly, it is safe to use. Always follow safety guidelines—avoid standing too close for long periods and never use damaged appliances. If you have concerns, the experts at IKMC are here to help guide you with trusted medical advice.
How long am I contagious when I have the flu or a cold?
You are usually contagious 1 day before symptoms appear and can continue to spread the virus for about 5 to 7 days after becoming sick. Children and people with weakened immune systems may be contagious for even longer. To prevent spreading illness, stay home when you're sick, cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing, wash your hands often, and wear a mask if necessary. If symptoms persist or worsen, consult a healthcare provider at IKMC.
